Position Description The Senior R&D Engineer provides a lead role in the ideation, development, design, implementation, test and transfer to manufacturing of medical devices for the ENT/NT business sector. The Senior Engineer shall work independently based on business and project priorities. The Senior Engineer is also expected to be able to proactively provide technical solutions and communicate with Technical Management. Position Responsibilities - Comply with the Medtronic Xomed Quality System.
- Lead and provide guidance in the development of prototypes, verification/validation units and product specifications, including material specifications, assembly drawings and manufacturing documentation. The Senior Engineer establishes the test plan, device limitations and their acceptance criteria. The Senior Engineer is responsible for the timely completion of the technical deliverables.
- Provide sustaining engineering direction and support for existing products.
- Has a continual awareness of new and advancing technologies and is able to provide conceptual and practical applications for products used during ENT/NT procedures/ surgeries.
- Create Intellectual Property (IP) through idea and product submissions and patent applications
- The Senior Engineer assures the protection and completion of these activities for both themselves and other members of their workgroup.
- Mentor technicians and less experienced engineers.
- Travel to observe surgeries, attend sponsored meetings and meet with suppliers.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications - This is typically the entry-level position for a PhD degree, a MS degree with 3-6 years or a BS degree with 5-8 years of relevant product development experience from concept through commercialization. Candidates with an Associates degree in a relevant technical discipline and with a minimum 15 years (20 years desired) relevant product development experience from concept through commercialization, and a proven track record of product commercialization, may also be considered. - Experience with product development over several projects from concept stage to commercial release. Desired/Preferred Qualifications - Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
