Reviews medical records and understands medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes. Reviews medical records and identifies and extract diagnoses and assign appropriate diagnosis codes, related to services provided by healthcare providers at Charter House. Ensures appropriate code assignment and sequencing for Medicare reimbursement. Provides education/support to clinical areas in regard to appropriate documentation and coding of services to achieve appropriate assignment of code for billing. Practices continuous improvement. # Basic Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. One to two years ICD-9 CM (ICD-10 CM) coding experience required. with demonstrated proficiency in accurate coding. Microsoft Office computer and typing skills required. Other Qualifications: Coursework in anatomy and physiology strongly preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology with a basic understanding of surgical procedures and pathology reports is required. Demonstrated proficiency in accurate coding. Is self-initiated/directed regarding coding and coding technology education. Is flexible and willing to adapt to changes in the work environment. Maintains effective and professional communication skills. Demonstrates excellent customer service. Contributes to a positive departmental image by exhibiting professionalism, adaptability, teamwork and mutual respect. Is proficient in computer use and various administrative software products to support coding activities. Demonstrates excellent organizational skills. Demonstrates unit coordinator and clerical record knowledge. Demonstrates knowledge of Medicare reimbursement process. Demonstrates basic knowledge of billing requirements and terminology. A 2-year commitment to this position is required. Benefit Eligible: Yes Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Hours/Pay Period: 80 Schedule Details: Monday-Friday; 8:00 am-4:30 pm Weekend Schedule: Optional Compensation Detail: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
