You will be part of the Biomechanical Development Unit and will be involved in building finite element models of bone strength using computed tomography data. This position is a training internship targeted for pre-doctoral students wishing to augment their doctoral studies with real life experience. The candidate is expected to finish all assigned work and to publish the results in peer-reviewed journals as part of the successful completion of the internship. The ideal candidate will be able to begin immediately. # Basic Qualifications: The candidate must be a pre-doctoral student having completed all PhD level coursework in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering with a GPA of 3.5/4 or better. This position requires experience with nonlinear Finite Element Analysis modeling and nonlinear materials. In particular, experience with advanced numerical modeling of bone mechanical and structural properties supported by significant coursework in Elasticity, Plasticity, Fracture Mechanics, and Tissue Mechanics is expected. The candidate must demonstrate advanced programming skills for Finite Element applications. In particular, this position requires scripting in APDL and Tcl/Tk for ANSYS APDL. Other Qualifications: Excellent communication skills are essential. A list of publications and presentations must be provided. 1) Excellent Matlab programming skills. 2) Prior programming experience for customizing commercial engineering software packages. 3) Knowledgeable in high-performance computing hardware and software. 4) Experience with materials testing, including sensors, instrumentation and data acquisition. 5) Experience processing large experimental data sets.
