The Dean of Graduate Studies articulates and supports goals of excellence for the Graduate Studies Program and provides leadership in all matters regarding graduate education. He or she is responsible for overseeing programs in American Studies, Economics, English and Public Policy among others, recruiting students with the goal of increasing enrollments, assessment, organizing campus events dealing with graduate studies, and authorizing the hiring of adjunct faculty within the Graduate Studies program. This person will work closely with the Graduate Studies Council, which consists of a representative from each of the programs listed above. The Dean of Graduate Studies will have guidance and oversight of planning and implementation in collaboration with the members of the Graduate Council. He or she may also teach as a secondary function of the position. This is an administrative exempt position.
A doctorate degree in a liberal arts or scientific discipline is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to articulate both to campus and broader communities a vision for the Graduate Studies program. He or she will show clear evidence of leadership, human relations and communication skills, experience directing and mentoring graduate candidates to timely completion of degrees, as well as experience in innovative graduate education and research. Experience in an administrative position in higher education, involving graduate program administration, and skills that are supportive of facilitating graduate, collaborative and interdisciplinary programs is preferred.
