The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will be able to exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services within the limits of their training and experience, and their scope of practice. Obtains a complete and thorough medical history, performs physical examinations, orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, formulates impressions and orders appropriate treatment plans for Emergency Department patients. Performs simple and complex medical procedures and lifesaving interventions. Prescribes pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments and therapies. Promotes wellness and prevention. Performs teaching and counseling for patients and families. Consults with supervising physician, specialists, our organization emergency department physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team as appropriate. Actively participates in the coordination of a patient-centered plan of care. Applies principles of continuous improvement to all aspects of job performance. Through a collegial and cooperative team approach, the physician assistant functions as an interdisciplinary team member in the delivery of high quality and cost effective care. Basic Qualifications: Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant degree program. Must complete 100 hours of Continuing Medical Education, (CME), every two years. Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner degree program. Must complete 25 hours of Continuing Medical Education, (CME), every 5 years. One year of Emergency Department experience preferred. Other Qualifications: Unrestricted prescriptive authority in Wisconsin, (Wisconsin Board of Medical Examiners and DEA). Eligible for Allied Health privileges at Mayo Clinic Health System sites. License or Certification: Physician Assistant: Current Wisconsin Physician Assistant License. Current NCCPA certification. Must successfully complete NCCPA recertification exam every six years. Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Basic Studies Course certified preferred. Nurse Practitioner: Active Wisconsin RN license or ability to practice professional nursing in the state of Wisconsin. Current Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber certificate. Current National certification (e.g. ANCC or AANP) as a Nurse Practitioner: Family or Adult. Current BLS. Current ACLS. TNCC preferred. Benefit Eligibl |
