RESPONSIBILITIES: Codes physician encounters in accordance with the productivity standards. No more than five code assignment errors are found in discharged inpatient/new outpatient coding as verified by scheduled coding audits. (Minimum 95% accuracy must be achieved All physician encounters are to be coded 48 hours from discharge date. All physician coding totals are submitted to administration to be incorporated in the monthly key volumes by the 10th day of the month. Notifies the MIS Department immediately of any technical problems with 3M Encoder. Provides in-services to new users/student interns of 3M Encoder. Confidentiality of both patient and employee information, hospital and department affairs is demonstrated by no inappropriate dissemination in any format (written, oral, or electronic) that would constitute a breach of the hospitals established confidentiality policy. As appropriate, open communication related to the work environment is maintained with HIS Department Director/other department co-workers and excessive socialization unrelated to the work environment is minimized as verified by direct management observation and feedback received from both internal/external employees. Consistently follows the coding standard rules as it applies to compliance Safety procedures are followed as verified by direct management observation and feedback received from both internal/external employees. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED: Computer literacy to include Windows 2003, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel) required. Knowledge of JCAHO/DHEC standards related to ICD-9/CPT coding guidelines required. 3-5 experience with ICD-9/CPT coding specializing in Physician coding.
