During your final year at medical school you can apply for a place on the two-year foundation programme, via the foundation programme website.
The first foundation year (F1) will typically consist of at least three-months in a surgical post and at least three-months in a medical post to provide a broad range of experience prior to full GMC registration.
The second foundation year (F2) is usually made up of three further four-month placements.
During the F2 year you will be asked to apply to compete for a place on a training programme as a specialty registrar working towards a post as a hospital consultant, or as a GP registrar training to become a GP.
Following successful completion of the specialist/GP training programme you will be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register or GP Register held by the GMC.
